The Toshiba Satellite series of notebook computers is known for are known for their performance and low-cost, but one thing that really ruins the day is when the laptop battery starts to lose its effective life, which usually happens after repeated use over the years. This year for the Superbowl, I was stuck in my dorm room and wanted to watch the post game highlights on my Toshiba M30, which is now on its second battery. Luckily I am using a replacement battery that is built to the same specifications as the original Toshiba battery, otherwise I'd be constantly worried that I was about to fry the computer, or worse, start a real fire.
When choosing a replacement battery for Toshiba or any other computer, I was careful to ensure that the amps, volts, and capacity all had the same specs as the original. Also, there are some extended capacity batteries on the market, that might add extra cells or a more efficient design, but some of them actually physically increase the size and end up protruding from the back of the computer. This time, I choose a laptop battery that was the same dimensions as the original, to preserve the space saving and portability of my original Toshiba Satellite M30.
Another nice thing about Toshiba Satellite computers is that the battery will be similar for models across a series, and often multiple series. For example, the Toshiba battery that I currently use with my Satellite M30 is also compatible with M35 series computers, which includes a ton of more specific models. Not that I have multiple computers to worry about, but it's a nice step on Toshiba's part.
Quality is obviously an important consideration, and one that I looked at carefully. Refurbished or used batteries were simply out of the question for me. I simply could not risk the damage to my computer or property, regardless of the guarantee offered by some sellers of used batteries. I wanted something new, not necessarily made my Toshiba, but a laptop battery that had a warranty and was definitely going to work. Going over the highlights of the game with my freshly charged Toshiba battery was a great way to spend the evening.
