The first phone call
The first call is made between the inventor Alexander Graham Bell and his assistant far away 4.5 meter on March 10 1876 with a short conversation: "Watson, come here! I want to see you!", which is a well-known part of American history marking the official birth of the telephone. At that time, it was considered as a breakthrough in technology advances, the result of a continuous research in efforts to find out a new kind of communication replacing for crude telegraph.

The first telephone book
The first telephone exchange was put into operation in New Haven, Connecticut state, U.S. On February 21 1878, the first world phone book was published in one page listing 50 names of whom donated to the company without phone number attached.
Its major task was to confirm donator’s merit.
The early stage
The first phones were designed just for rich people with a typically stylish design.
The first telephone booth
The birth of telephone booth was considered as a future trend when anyone can make a phone call on the street.
However, now it’s not useful as expected.
Car phone
Phone was getting more convenient when being attached inside car, which was a technology revolution at that time.
The first "mobile" phone was advertised in 1967 with the name "Carry phone", marking a closer point to modern mobile phone. Despite being called "mobile", it was not welcomed when a bulky box 4.5kg in weight was required to bring along.
Many people found it unaffordable to own one until its size was minimized.
Handheld mobile phone
On April 3 1973, the first handheld mobile phone Motorola Dyna Tac invented by Martin Cooper was in public; this event was shocking at a number of people. However, this was simply a new technology show, it could not replace fixed phones.
The original model looks like a heavy "brick".
Video phone was ever a big challenge for researchers in the 1960s. The popular reasons were high price, low quality image, or merely the worries about looking of talkers.
Furthermore, muti-function feature of Internet has changed videophone’s orientation; VoIP technology (voice over Internet phone) supported by webcam actually brings more utility for the society’s development.
Smart Phone
Apple iPhone, a breakthrough in innovation with unique design, is a touch screen super sensitive which helps users easily manipulate by finger’s touch. It created an unprecedented ‘boom’ in 2007 and started a fierce competition between firms in the smart-phones segment.
In fact, the appearance of Apple with touch-screen technology has been recorded since 1983 with touch-phone Ciara, a big step forward to the information technology industry.
Telephone’s future
It’s difficult to predict how telephone changes in the future while the advances of science and technology are constantly developing.
