The iPhone 5 will be released on October 4. The current Apple board member and former U.S. Vice President Al Gore has spoken about the debut of “new iPhones (plural), quipping that it was an intentional plug” at a conference in South Africa this week. The statements of Al Gore are tied with the most credible of the recent iPhone rumors.

According to John Paczkowski at All Things D reports, new Apple CEO Tim Cook will be in charge of the upcoming event just like legendary outgoing CEO and co-founder Steve Jobs used to run events. This is also an interesting test for Cook since he's never done the big product announcement ever. The phone will be on sale weeks after Cook's presentation.
