Motorola have announced two new phones, the Motorola Milestone 2 and Motorola Defy to take on the Android smartphone segment and quite possibly, the iPhone too. While the Milestone is power packed with features and has a little bit for everyone, the Defy is more for the outdoor adventurer since it is built to handle any type of environment.

Sturdiness is easily the party piece of the Motorola Defy. Motorola has made his phone water resistant, dust resistant and probably most important of all, scratch resistant, so that it preserves its good looks for a long time. The phone can be submerged in water for a maximum of 30 minutes. The Milestone on the other hand seems to be more focussed on the business class people or young people who want all the latest gizmos in their phone.

While the Motorola Defy is focussing on sturdiness, it hasn't discarded the other features as well. The display is a big 3.7-inch WVGA screen and the phone runs on Android 2.1 instead of Android 2.2. There is DLNA support for seamless connectivity with various devices like home theatres and others at your home and a powerful 5-megapixel camera with auto-focus and flash for better photos. The music player in the Defy lets you buy songs over the Internet directly on to your phone and there are over 70,000 applications to choose from, which can be used to further get the best out of your phone.

The Motorola Milestone 2, as previously described, is a phone which is loaded with features. A 3.7-inch capacitive touch screen display kicks everything off and it is there to showcase the stunning Android 2.0 operating system in its full glory. The capacitive screen offers multi-touch recognition to the user. The phone has a full QWERTY keyboard and it has one of the slimmest sliders used in the industry today. A 5-megapixel camera with dual LED flash is given for capturing the best of your moments, both in low light and outdoors. It can also perform video recording at 24 fps. It comes bundled with Wi-Fi, GPS and stereo Bluetooth 2.1 for great connectivity.

The 600 MHZ processor and 256 MB RAM are more than sufficient to handle all the features at its disposal. The Motorola Milestone has an internal memory of 133 MB, which can be expanded via microSD card slot. The phone also comes bundled with an 8 GB card in its sales package.

The Motorola Milestone 2 is available in the UK currently at a price of £321 in Amazon listings, which is an incredible value for money offer for such an incredible phone. The Motorola Defy has not been launched in the UK market yet and Motorola are in talks with various network providers over the launch of this phone. One can expect the phone to be launched later this year. The Motorola Defy is a great phone and provided that it is priced fairly, it could well dominate the smartphone market in the coming years. It will certainly point the rugged phone market in a new direction and the Milestone 2 should help to place Motorola back at the forefront of the phone industry where they rightfully belong.
